I realize I just did lamps on Monday, but IÂ finally finished my thrift store lamp makeover and I want to show you! I’m really excited about this, because I’ve been looking for lamps in this style for quite some time now. They’re tall enough for my bed (though I don’t have pictures of that, since my bedroom still isn’t finished), thin enough for my small nightstands, and really cute.
I got these lamps at Goodwill for a little more than $5 each. They started out as a pale green, which was an OK color, but not what I was going for. Also, these were supposed to come with lamp shades…but the ones attached were pink. Um, no thanks. I quietly removed them from the lamps and left them at Goodwill. Who knows? Maybe they’ll be discovered by someone who can actually appreciate them.
I believe these were ditched after someone else’s DIY gone ‘meh.’ Because they had some issues with paint drips and…glue, for some reason. As I explained Monday, this is actually pretty easy to fix. I used acetone to pull off some of the paint and the glue…and I discovered that the lamps were originally white.
My original plan was to paint the lamps white, so I found it funny that they already were. However, when I also realized they were aluminum, I decided to go in a different direction.
I did the paint in Rustoleum’s Satin Nickel. I want to decorate my bedroom in a relaxing night sky theme and I felt the nickel would offset all the blues and dark colors really well.
For the lamps, I actually found what I wanted at the dollar store, again for $5 each. So each lamp cost me $10 plus the paint. Not bad, considering the prices of lamps these days!
Here’s how they turned out:
They look so nice in my bedroom. Since they’re much taller than my old lamps, it’s a lot easier to turn them off when Zach and I are ready to go to sleep. I’m pretty happy with my thrift store lamp makeover. 😀

Thank you, Anne. 🙂 Have a great day!
Stopping by from Turn It Up Tuesday. I love these lamps! I saw the lamp shades while browsing the Dollar Store. You did a great job.
Thank you! I couldn’t believe I could find something this adorable so cheaply, so I’m glad it turned out well. 🙂 Thanks so much for stopping by and have a great Memorial Day weekend!
I need new lamps. I think I’ll have to keep my eyes open for some good deals. I have also liked a stand and not the tops, never thought of “removing” the shades! Definitely worth it! Love the new shades! Thanks for sharing with Turn it Up Tuesday!
Many stores–even chains–charge for the lamp shades, anyway. May as well get the one you want. 🙂 Thanks for stopping by!
These are so cute, I really like the shades 🙂
Thanks! 😀
