I haven’t done anything from The Organized Housewife in a while. It’s time to catch up, isn’t it? OK, here’s what’s coming up so far….
Task 4: Remove 3 items of bedlinen you no longer need or use. I use all of the bedlinen I have, so this one isn’t getting done. In an effort to go through my cedar chest and make sure that was true, though, I did come across some interesting things. Possibly more on that in another post.
Task 5: Declutter under the kitchen sink. I actually needed to do this. I didn’t think I did, but once I got under there and started moving things around…I kind of did.
BEFORE
AFTER
I wound up throwing away:
- lighter fluid that’s been in there for a long time
- some flea bombs from a dry summer we had a couple years ago and the cats caught a TERRIBLE case of fleas that wouldn’t go away
- a couple old scrub brushes
- some empty Febreeze bottles (why did I still have those???)
I consolidated the dishwasher packs, because I bought some and forgot to take it off of the grocery list before sending Zach off to the store the next day. I found the bag of Epsom salts I was looking for a couple months ago and could have SWORN we had, but finally gave up on.
And you know what I noticed after decluttering? We have a leak. Or had one, anyway. There was a puddle of water under the stuff I threw out. I ran the water for a minute and didn’t notice any drippage. But I’m going to investigate further when Zach gets home, since I’m very unqualified for this. It’s moments like these that I’m thankful I rent rather than own…. A very important lesson for the future, though: always keep the area under your sink free of clutter and keep a drip pan under the pipes. Just in case.
It’s not perfect, but I’m still organizing the whole kitchen and figuring out where I’ll keep things and what I need to buy. I want to get a tension rod to hang my spray bottles from, but I can’t find one that will fit the pantry. It’s a process.
ETA: By the way, this decluttering task took me less than five minutes. Nice!
