This pumpkin fluff is made with only 3 ingredients, takes about 5 minutes to whip up, and can be eaten as a pudding or in pie form.
Today I’m going to talk about a recipe that was very popular a couple years ago. For good reason. It’s three ingredients (four it you choose), it’s easy to make, and it’s delicious.
If you ever want the taste of pumpkin pie without any of the work (or the crust), this is your answer. There can be no other. 😛
Pumpkin fluff was something I heard about a few years ago–it was heralded as a “healthier” alternative to pumpkin pie, basically.
While it’s probably lower in calories, it’s really not much healthier since it’s full of sugar (nutrition is far more complicated than calorie counting).
3-Ingredient Pumpkin Fluff
- 1 (15 oz) can of pumpkin
- 1 (8 oz) tub of Cool Whip
- 1 (5 oz) box of instant vanilla pudding mix (do not make the pudding)
- 1 tsp pumpkin pie spice (optional)
Step 01: Mix all of the ingredients together in a bowl. Spoon each serving into a bowl, a glass, or dump the entire thing into a pie crust (graham cracker is delicious). Chill for 1-2 hours. Serve and enjoy!
That’s it.
This is one of my go-to desserts on nights when I find myself with surprise guests. It’s delicious.
You can go the sugar-free route, if you want, but Zach and I found that option to be bitter. If you don’t mind that, just switch the pudding for sugar-free. If you can’t find sugar free Cool Whip, you can make your own by simply taking a hand mixer and whipping heavy cream until it thickens and forms peaks (about 5 minutes of whipping). Just don’t add sugar to the cream and you can have a sugar free snack!
If you add it to a pie crust, you can leave it as is or add an 8 oz package of softened cream cheese, to give it some more thickness (and a cream cheese-y taste). But, honestly, it’s unnecessary.
Enjoy!

Hi I stopped by from Let’s Get Social Sunday. I followed you on BlogLovin. If you want to follow back here’s my link.
Thank you! I’m following you back. 😀
My first though was “what in the world is fluff”? But this looks very good 🙂
Hahaha! Right!? That was my first thought, too, but now that I’ve made it I can’t think of a better term. 😛
Thank you for sharing at our TGIF Link Party at A Peek Into My Paradise. I have chocolate cool whip in the fridge. I wonder how that would taste? Your post will be featured at the TGIF Link Party this week and was pinned to the TGIF Party Board! I can’t wait to see what you link up this week! Happy Halloween!
Cathy
I’ve actually put chocolate chips in this before and it was delicious. I imagine chocolate cool whip would make it even better. Though if you test it, I have to insist you come back and tell me. 😀 Thank you!
I spotted this on foodgawker and had to check it out! Pinned. It looks awesome!
Thank you! 😀
So I just whipped this up and it’s delicious even before chilling! I didn’t realize the pudding box was a 5 oz one for though and used 2 one ounce boxes because it’s all I had, is the I’ve correct? It seems like it might be too much since two was plenty sweet for the recipe. Thanks for posting it!
Hi, Toni! I did use a 5 oz box. However, if you’re happy with how yours turned out, then there is no reason to change it. I’m glad you enjoyed this recipe! 🙂
3 ingredient fluff, count me in! Totally pinning 🙂 have a great week! xo

The recipe looks delicious and so easy. I am craving it right now. I featured your Pumpkin Fluff on my Tuesday Treasures today. I hope you can stop by and take a look! Have a wonderful week.I hope you can join us at the Thursday Favorite Things Blog Hop again this week!
Recipe was killer!!!! A must try without the pie crust….yummmmm i sprinkled nuts on top.!
Was I supposed to make the pudding first… or just add the mix to the pumpkin? I feel kinda silly for asking.
Thanks!
Add it to the pumpkin, do not make the pudding.
Can this be made with pumpkin pie mix, or is it just canned pumpkin?
Since it’s not being baked, you can probably use pumpkin pie mix. But I used canned pumpkin.
Instant pudding??
Yep.
I just made your pumpkin fluff and it’s like wallpaper paste. I dumped the pumpkin in a bowl, added pumpkin pie spice and pudding. I could hardly mix it and I couldn’t get it all incorporated. I didn’t want to add the cool whip too soon because I thought it should be folded in so all the air wasn’t knocked out of it. Anyway, it was not good. How could I make something so simple and not have a good result?
Beats me.
Do you just eat the fluff or can you recommend anything to dip into this dip? Sounds delicious!
I just eat the fluff, but I HAVE put it in pie crust before and it was wonderful! If you want to dip cookies (shortbreads, maybe?) into it, I’m sure that would be a hit.
