I decided this year to make tags instead of buying them. It went…OK. I’m not very impressed by them. I used Martha Stewart’s rubber stamps and, honestly, I was very unimpressed by them. If I had to do it again, I would have gotten a set of metal stamps from Amazon or something. The Martha Stewart stamps kept falling out of the holders and didn’t show up as well as I hoped. But they came out.
What you will need:
- 1 cup salt
- 2 cups flour
- 1 cup warm water
Step 01: Mix all ingredients and create a ball.
Step 02: Sprinkle some flour your surface and roll your ball of salt dough flat.
Step 03: Stamp your labels into your dough.
Step 04: Cut dough into shapes. (I used a peanut butter jar lid to cut out the circles.)
Step 05: Place tags onto a greased baking sheet and bake at 200°F for 2-3 hours. You can also leave your tags out and let them air dry, but that will take 2-3 days.
That’s pretty much it!
I took sandpaper to the edges just a little bit because the peanut butter jar lid wasn’t fantastic. But they came out OK. I used the end of a beater to put the holes through them.

I wanted to make my own gift tags this year but didn’t get around to it. Yours look great (even with your troubles)!
Thanks! It seems this year has just been really hectic, hasn’t it? There are a lot of projects I just couldn’t get around to doing.
