Yesterday being the new year, I decided to take down the tree. This is the third Christmas Zach and I have had as a married couple, so this is the third Christmas tree I’ve decorated and torn down. Each year, I usually just toss the decorations into a tote. Ornament organization systems are just so expensive! But this year, I came up with something better and cheaper–basically free, actually.
I don’t have too many large glass ornaments and I was, fortunately, smart enough to keep the original packaging for the ones I do have. So those are easy to put away. (And the cats broke so many of them this year that I was able to consolidate. -_-) But I have a fair number of smaller glass ornaments that I usually just put into a plastic baggie. Easy to take down, a pain to put up again. This year, though?
Egg cartons!
I moved our eggs to a bowl, put them in the fridge, and kept the cartons. (FYI, having our eggs in a bowl is way better. Much easier access.)
For my large, unbreakable ornaments, I stacked them all in a shoe box. (Usually, they all go in a grocery bag. Quite unorganized.) I also had some German stars, icicles, and snowflakes. I put those in an old Bed Bath & Beyond gift box. Nothing fancy.
My ornament tote is much more organized this year. In fact, I even had room for more stuff, which is something that generally doesn’t happen. (It also helps that we now have a pre-lit tree, so I was able to get rid of all the boxes of lights we had. =P) I’m looking forward to how much easier tree decorating will be next year.
How have you kept your Christmas decorations organized throughout the years?
