These DIY Friday the 13th guitar pick earrings are easy to make and look fantastic with pretty much anything.
A couple years ago, I got Zach a set of Friday the 13th guitar picks that look like Jason Vorhees’s hockey mask.
I love him, probably more than he does.
Anyway, the pack I got came with quite a few (though the one linked in this post comes with only 6, I believe). While I know he’ll easily go through all of them eventually, I thought they were cool enough to warrant immortalizing.
So, one day when I had nothing better to do, I sat down at my desk and transformed a pair of them into earrings. I’m so happy with the results and I get tons of compliments on them. In fact, I was recently in a tattoo parlor and the artist I was speaking with at one point apologized because he “couldn’t stop staring” at my earrings. When he found out I’d made them, he dragged me into the back to show them off to his co-workers.
Artists, man. Love ’em.
Anyway, here’s quick tutorial on how to make them. Go on, impress your friends. 😛
Guitar Pick Earrings
- Stainless Steel Earring Hooks
- Friday the 13th Picks
- Rubber Bullet Earring Stoppers (optional)
- pliers (there are special jewelry pliers, but I used a pair from my tool box)
- something to put a hole through the picks (I used a hammer and a thin nail)
Step 01: Take a marker of some sort, figure out where you want the holes to go, and mark the spot on the pick.
Step 02: Hammer the nail into the pick until it goes all the way through. Make sure to do this on a surface you don’t mind also hammering through (like, you know, not your leg or something).
Step 03: Take the jewelry pliers and get the loop bit of the earring hook open enough to slide it through the pick. Using the pliers, again, squeeze the loop closed. Make sure the earring can’t fall off the loop.
Step 04: Repeat for the second pick and you’re done!
Yeah, the picture of me isn’t great quality (I took it from my private Instgram account). By the time I got around to writing this post, I didn’t feel like putting make up on to take a picture with my real camera. 😛 I’d also love to say my desk no longer looks like that, but…. shrug
You can do this with pretty much any pick (I have plans to do it to Zach’s new Punisher picks 😛 ). I ESPECIALLY love the Friday the 13th ones because they glow in the dark. 😛
Tell me about your own DIY jewelry in the comments!
