If you follow me on any of my social media sites, then you already know that I found a chair by the dumpster and I’m really excited about it.
So excited that screw everything else I was going to post today. I’m showing you this chair. 😛 Ignore the mess–this is my “work room” and I haven’t figured out how to organize it yet.
This is what it looked like when I found it. I was never a fan of animal prints, though I’ll admit they’re growing on me. But this? No. I’m pretty sure it’s a fleece blanket that was cut up to fit the chair. And I know it was a re-upholstery job because whoever did it did the bottom really sloppily.
Can you see the piece of fabric hanging from the bottom of the chair?
And my cat would not leave.
Anyway, I took the seat off the chair and pulled out all the upholstery staples to reveal this.
That animal print fabric, even if it was fleece, was way better than this.
Don’t worry, I have plans. And they’ve already begun!
I cleaned the chair with soap water, and vinegar. And then I lightly sanded it (which was nasty, because this chair was still filthy–the only thing I managed to sand off were layers of black dirt. Ew). I found some primer I had lying around and sprayed it.
SO much better! I haven’t completely decided on a color, though. If I go with something deep, it’ll be glossy. If it’s a lighter color, then I’ll do it in a matte finish (or chalk paint). But I’m so excited! I already have the fabric picked out, because I’ve had it lying around for a while now.
I can’t wait to finish this! I can’t believe I found something so gorgeous by the dumpster.
What is the best thing you’ve found in the trash? Do you ever take garbage home? How did it turn out? Leave a link to your dumpster furniture updates on my Facebook page! Or you can friend me on Instagram and post it there. 🙂

I love that chair! Great bones to work with! I can’t wait to see the fabric! P.S. totally jealous of your “work room” – even a little bit disorganized I want one in my apartment! 🙂
Thanks! I agree–I can’t believe I found something so cute. Hopefully the reveal will be soon–just need to get my hand on some upholstery tools! My work room is probably my favorite thing about our new place. I can finally do all the stuff I’ve been nagging my husband about for years! 😀
Love this chair! I cant wait to see how you finish it!
Thanks! 🙂 Hopefully the reveal will be coming soon, though the paint is giving me problems.
Oh it’s looking good! I also want to squeeze that cat. So cute! I can’t wait to see the outcome. I love the aspect of DIYing. I’m hoping to do more starting soon. Happy Friday.
Thanks! Squeezing him is awesome, his fur is so luxurious. 😛 DIY is a lot of fun, though it took me a while to figure out what I was doing. Enjoy your weekend!
