If you don’t have your Google+ set up properly, you may be accidentally sharing all of your posts PRIVATELY like I was. Therefore, gaining no momentum. Here’s how to change the privacy level on Google+!
If you use WordPress, you can very easily share your posts on most social media sites automatically. It’s pretty simple! You go to Settings –> Sharing and then connect the accounts you want to share on.
Naturally, Google+ is the problem child. Why am I not surprised?
For months, I had my WordPress blogs set to share on Google+…which I thought meant everyone would see them. Not the case. Again, for months, I did this. And then I realized two days ago that my posts were being shared privately. (FYI, to figure out if yours are being shared privately, look at your posts. Under your name it will say, “Shared Privately.”)
I shouldn’t get mad at Google+. I firmly believe that the default privacy settings on ALL social media should be as private as possible (especially for minors). If I want my information made available, I should have to go in and change it manually. Google+ is doing it right this time. Unlike other sites (*cough*Facebook*cough*).
The problem I have, though, is that Google+ is NOT user friendly. The one thing Twitter, Facebook, and Tumblr all have that Google+ doesn’t is that any idiot can get on there and change their settings. With Google+, though, changing settings isn’t so easy.
But after a while of rooting around on the site, I finally figured out how to fix my privacy settings on Google+! And I’m here to share it with you.
How to Change the Privacy Level On Google+
Step 01: You want to find your apps. So go here. You should see a list of apps that are currently connected to your Google+ account.
Step 02: Next to the site you want to change (for me, it was WordPress), click “Edit.” (Right beside “Public” on my screen.)
Step 03: Click on the drop-down to pick the privacy setting you want.
Public — Everyone can see it, even if they don’t have a Google+ account.
Only Circles — The people you add to your circles (basically your friends list) can see it.
Private — Only you can see it.
Click “Save” and you’re done!
The hardest part about this is figuring out where to go. I searched the FAQs and such, but wound up figuring it out on a WordPress.org forum. Why Google has to make things so complicated is beyond me.
What problems are you having with Google+? Or do you have advice on how to best use it? Leave it in the comments!
