Banana nut smoothies are a healthy, delicious way to get your morning started off right. Toss everything into a blender, pour into a glass, and go!
Lately I’ve been on a smoothie kick–particularly for breakfast. Maybe because drinking your food is so much more convenient. Although, the clean-up definitely is not. This morning, I improvised one that turned out surprisingly well. In fact, this might be a new favorite.
Banana Nut Smoothies
- 1 medium overripe banana
- 1/2 cup yogurt
- 1/4 cup nut butter
- flax seeds (optional)
- 1/4 to 1/2 cup milk (almond milk is preferred, but others are fine)
Step 01: Cut and puree your bananas. I found that my food processor is better than my blender for this step. The blender just can’t handle the thickness. Note that you can add all of the ingredients at the same time, but I find that I get a smoother texture if I add them one at a time.
Step 02: Blend in the milk and then the yogurt. I used Greek Gods Strawberry and Honey Greek Yogurt–I love this yogurt for its flavor, but I don’t recommend it if you’re watching your sugar content…1/2 cup has 34g of sugar! Which is why I only get it occasionally. Plain yogurt would actually be good in this because it doesn’t have so much sugar and the banana has a strong flavor that overpowers pretty much anything. Which is nice, because I find that plain yogurt usually tastes pretty sour.
Step 03: Add the nut butter and flax seeds. The almond butter I get a Kroger already had flax seeds in it. Alternately, you could use Nutella. Yum.
Pour into a glass and enjoy!

Thank you so much! I had two bananas that needed used and made this for my kids (doubled) with Nutella. My older daughter said it tasted like candy.
Omg, I bet the Nutella in it was FANTASTIC! Now I need to get a “kid approved” sticker for this recipe. 😛
