I may have hinted at this earlier in the year, but I am in the midst of redecorating my bedroom.
Finally.
We got a larger bed in August, so our old full-sized one went into the spare room. So now our parents finally have an incentive to visit. 😛
As for our room…I’ve had a vision for a while. I wanted a moody look–lots of dark neutrals. I went into some detail in my Astronomy Tower Bedroom post, and showed you some photos that I found inspiring.
Actually, I still really love those ideas! But the one thing that’s giving me issues is finding a headboard. They say that interior design is a reflection of the designer’s soul. If that’s the case, my soul is lazy and indecisive.
So I’ve been going around Pinterest and finding DIY headboard ideas. Here are some of my favorites!
1. DIY Rustic Headboard from Radical Possibility
Yeah, this was on my last bedroom post, but I still love it. I’m just not 100% sure it’s the way I want to go. But it’s also incredibly budget-friendly, which is also a HUGE bonus.
2. Old Door Headboard from Country Living
I love this! Though I’d go with darker colors, the idea of using an old (possibly thrifted) door sounds so easy. And right now, I could go for an easy DIY.
3. Pallet Headboard from Rice Designs
Pallets are cheap! This project may not be as easy as a door, but I’m willing to do a little extra work to save some cash. I’m just not sure how I feel about the vertical boards….
4. Fabric Headboard with Buttons from Sarah M. Dorsey
OK, I am in love with this headboard. I love the color, I love the silver tacks going down the edges. I love how the sides turn in and hug the bed. It makes it feel so much cozier!
What I’m not loving is that price tag. I know it’s way cheaper than you could get it in stores, but it’s still not cheap enough for this budget.
Sigh.
5. Shelf Headboard from Happy at Home
Very cute and another easy one. I love how she updated it, though, which is probably how I would want to do it (except either with a dark stain or black paint).
6. Floating Headboard from Brian Hazzard
This is cute and looks super easy. My only question is…how do I keep it from getting knocked on top of us? I sleep with my arm above my head. It’s weird and awkward, but comfortable. Actually, that was one thing I LOVED about our old metal headboard. My hand could fit through he bars, so I never had issues with stretching out.
7. DIY Tufted Headboard from Pink When
This is close to the fabric one above, but much cheaper. Very cute, too! I think I’d add some furniture tacks to the edges.
 8. Picture Frame Headboard from My Home Ideas
Another easy one! Actually, this could be cheap, too, if we found a nice, big picture frame at a thrift store.
9. Rustic Headboard from Our Nerd Home
I LOVE THIS! It’s like the rustic headboard from Radical Possibility, except with Zelda hearts. Ha! SO cute!
10. DIY Barn Door Headboard from Sweet French Toast
I really love this, but I don’t know where I’m going to find a barn door…or where I would clean it. Still!
11. Pallet with Birds from Cathey with an E
This is cute! I wonder if I could do this with phases of the moon or something, since I’m going with a night sky theme.
12. Screen Divider from HGTV
Another easy one! Probably not too budget-friendly, though.
13. Quilted Headboard from The Harpster Home
With the right fabrics, this could be really gorgeous in our bedroom!
14. Reclaimed Wood Headboard from It’s Overflowing
This is gorgeous, but it looks like it took A LOT of work.
15. Library Wall Headboard from Home Decorating Ideas
Oh, if only….
And I still have no idea. Clearly this is something I’ll need to bring Zach in on, whether he wants to be or not. 😛 (Though his response is, “I like it the way it is.” …It’s an enormous blank wall.)
What do you think? Do you like any of these? Let me know in the comments!

Oh i would so do #15, and will show this to the hubs. He did this for both the kids bedrooms a few years back, and this would be wonderful in ours!!!!!!
Jealous! We rent, so that’s definitely not happening for us right now. But I bet it would be beautiful in a master bedroom! Glad I included, though–but how could I not, it’s so pretty! 😛
Hi, found you on Artcademy. List is such a great list. I would have a hard time deciding too actually. I like the nailhead one; very current. The mantle/shelf above the head looks good and seems would be very easy. Love your blog.
amazing ideas, been wanting to diy myself a headboard for ages and this has given me some great tips 🙂

Heidy, thanks so much for dropping by! I look forward to this week’s party. 🙂
The floating headboard sounds appealing to me. Would love to have it in my bedroom since i’m planning to redecorate and redesign my home.
Thanks for all the great ideas! I am always looking for cheap and easy ways to redecorate.
These are amazing! We recently got rid of our queen-size sleigh bed because it was just too small, now we have a california king, but no headboard. I love the fabric and shelf idea! Pinning !
